| DESIRES AND PRAYERS, by Gail Gupton |
|
Wants, needs, desires, hopes; they're all related to the human scene. Most people send a prayer 'up to God' in positive expectation their request will be honored. In the world as we know it, God occasionally seems to answer our prayer and when we think God doesn't, or didn't hear it, we simply either say 'it was God's will' or 'God is punishing me' or 'God didn't hear my prayer', or something similar. What's wrong with this picture? I've said it before and I'll say it again: Even the Catholic Pope, the 'holiest' of men supposedly representing the church sector, doesn't have his prayer answered when every year we hear him, at least once, pray for 'peace on earth'. A relatively simple petition for God to wave his magic wand to restore peace on earth and good will toward men has never happened and never will happen as long as people continue to see God as outside and separate from themselves or to think God takes orders from people. It will take millions or billions of people to see the Truth for Truth to be manifested on earth - but it will happen - just not in our human lifetime. Man is evolving, spiritually, given the increase of New Age movements and a peaking of spiritual interests away from traditional religion where it's taught that God is outside somewhere, if we could just find him, usually in heaven or on His throne when we're called 'home'. I get questions and inquiries to pray for people. What happens, however, is I immediately know the truth of their being. When one is faced with a dilemma or temptation to believe in a separation from God, "one with God is a majority", someone once said. This is the truth. When one is ONE with God, we are ONE with everyone and everything whether they know it or not. When our consciousness is lifted up, we 'draw all men unto us'. And they feel the benefit, anonymously, if they're receptive to knowing the truth of God. To pray is to be in ONENESS with God, even if felt for only a split second, because there is no time in infinity. That one second IS infinity, therefore, the oneness is infinite and complete. One with God? Hmmmm. Let's examine the word, with. Most definitions would state being side by side or in the company of. But if one gets out of bed in the morning with a headache, that should mean the headache is outside, beside oneself, and not inside the head. Using this analogy, we can clearly see God is on the inside with us, as us, since we don't really have a life of our own and have no control regarding our birth or demise. But getting back to prayer and desires, a person's only desire should be not for the gain of material wealth or health, but should be exclusively for knowing and feeling the presence of God and being one with God. Then all things fall into place. A rose can be deliciously red and desirous but that does not mean a white orchid is ugly. So when one wants or desires a red rose and gets a white orchid instead, that person is usually disappointed. God is being that tropical orchid, and if one could only recognize it, he or she would receive the benefit of its beauty and symmetry. Desiring anything other than spiritual understanding leads one off the spiritual path. Becoming obsessed with fortune or fame usually has its downfall on the pursuer of such. Becoming obsessed with finding the right home or mate or job or anything of the human nature has its drawbacks and disappointments. Practice an experiment. Plant your feet into the soil (a spiritual foundation) and be a sunflower. The head of the sunflower sees the sun rise in the east, follows its path throughout the day and in the evening when the sun is setting on the western horizon, the sunflower is still remarkably watching it, never relinquishing its identity of being a 'sun' flower. All is well. |
