IN THE FACE OF TEMPTATION, by Gail Gupton
There are many temptations in the world that try to make us believe we are separated from God. Those who are caught up in the world's activities of drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, theft, gambling - all the vices known to man - what can these people do to break the pattern?

I was recently asked to pray for such a person. Recalling Joel's statement, "You cannot solve a problem on the level of the problem" clarified for me the Truth of the matter.

One cannot expect to solve one problem without another taking its place until God's omnipotence is realized in human consciousness. In other words, nothing  happens until one comes to the conscious, startling effect that God is power and nothing else. There is no Truth about a situation or about a person caught up in a seemingly negative activity. One must raise his or her consciousness to a higher realm in the realization that the only Truth is that God is always in charge. God is the only power, the only activity, the only source of one's good.

So, let us take these "addictions" and identify them.

1. Drugs: A universal belief that says we are separated from God on a human level and that we can alter our state of being by indulging in an exterior substance due to the belief that either "mankind" has power over his body, or that a "chemical or herb" does.

2. Alcohol: A universal belief that says we are separated from God on a human level and that we can alter our state of being by indulging in an exterior substance due to the belief that either "mankind" has power over his mind, or that a "beverage" does.

3. Promiscuity: A universal belief that says we are separated from God on a human level and that we can alter our nature of being by indulging in an exterior activity due to the belief that either "womankind" has power, or that "sex" does.

4. Theft: A universal belief that says we are separated from God on a human level and that we can alter our life existence by indulging in an exterior activity due to the belief that either "mankind" has power to control, or that a "gun or knife" does.

5. Gambling: A universal belief that says we are separated from God on a human level and that we can alter our life destiny by indulging in an exterior activity due to the belief that either "mankind" has power to predict events, or that a "game" does.

The common thread to all of the above is that there is a universal belief that we are separated from God on a human level. The answer to "all of the above" is that God is Omnipotent and that we never have been, and never will be, separated from our source, "I will be with you always . . ". Without this conscious realization one falls prey to every human situation, activity and event known to mankind.

To attempt to solve a human problem on a human level is only as effective as the belief in the remedy. With the "cure" of one human ailment, two more show up at the front door, following on the heels of the ailment that just fled, only with a different name or label. This happens when one continues to maintain a "human" consciousness on a human level.

The only way I know to get "above the seeming problem" is to commune with God on a higher realm. God does not come to me except that I consciously wake up to His all-consuming presence and His infinite all-encompassing Being.

I take myself outside of the seeming situation. I realize that God is not only being my life but also the life of all people and things. I shut the mental door to any suggestive thoughts I may have heard or read. Is anything about a human problem spiritual? Isn't spiritual understanding what I really seek? But not to use it. No. One cannot use God and expecially not for selfish purposes. God uses Himself to propel, guide, direct one's life - His life - to perfection, AS perfection, as we open ourselves to receive His grace.

We must let the spiritual nature of God consume our thoughts.

A person entangled in the maze of seeming addictions can be helped by our seeing God as the only power. Not a power to heal. Not a power to overcome or to DO anything. In the realization or knowing that God is the only power, what power does an "addiction" have? That's the meditation. What power does an addiction have when God is omnipotent?

If the 1600+ people now receiving this monthly newsletter would meditate upon and know the Truth about the nature of God on a 24-hour basis, what miracles would occur!

All is well.
