THE GIFT OF RECEIVING, by Gail Gupton
Many people will tell you the greatest feeling in the world is that of giving. You may even have told others the same thing. Holiday seasons are ripe with the giving of gifts which provide a sense of human satisfaction worldwide and, indeed, giving is a true Christlike characteristic.

But what about receiving? Are we consciously aware of the gifts we receive on a daily basis? Gifts of God's grace, with no strings attached?

Giving is from God within us. We give because we're spiritually led to do so. We give to charities and to friends and family alike because it's in our nature to give. True satisfaction has always been in the giving of ourselves whether giving a smile to a stranger or giving our best at our place of employment.

Receiving, on the other hand, is of the same framework. It's that balance of opposite effects that make spiritual Oneness but which we often interpret as being separate. We're constantly receiving God's grace in everything we see around us and with every activity that befalls us. God's grace appears as an innovative idea, as a thoughtful comment from another, as warm sunshine coming through the glass window or perhaps as rain falling to nourish the planet's thirsty undergrowth - all expressions of God's presence, yet usually unconsciously appearing to the human mind.

Nature is something one can relate to easily, seeing the abundance of softly fallen snow or the budding of new leaves as being from God. But everything is from God. God is ALWAYS the source of activity, form, and substance.

With each phone call, each paycheck, each letter in the mailbox the activity of God is manifesting and we are the recipients. The more one consciously realizes this truth and becomes aware of God's presence (presents), the wider the door opens and the floodgates often reveal gifts of grace we thought were non-existent. But it must be done with a conscious awareness of God's presence and omnipotence.

In his book, "The Spiritual Interpretation of Scripture, author, Joel Goldsmith writes, "We sometimes wonder why this year we are no better off than we were last year. It may be that last year we had some lack of wealth, health, morals, position, companionship, and this year that same condition exists." (pg 112)

So, have we grown spiritually this year? Have we expanded our consciousness to a higher degree in order to open wide the gates? Have we risen above mere petty human emotions and concepts to receive God's abundance through new ideas that are spiritually perceived? Have we had that ultimate realization that we are all one with God, as Jesus taught, thus dissolving the seeming negative appearance of separation?

God's abundance is infinite and eternal. One can have abundant wealth, abundant health, abundant everything when one has GOD and the consciousness of that Christ Mind, the awareness of our relationship with our heavenly Father. God expresses no lack. This is evident in the Master's earthly journey when all needs were met, regardless of the situation or locality. Multitudes were fed, people were healed.

You are one with God and this realization of truth, this conscious awareness, will propel you to greater heights than you may currently be experiencing.

Spiritual realization is the greatest gift one can receive. It's permanently lasting. It's the only thing one takes on the final journey. It has no strings attached and no payment due. When one receives enlightenment, he or she has received the greatest gift of all.

All is well.
