| CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS, by Gail Gupton |
| Definition:
The full conscious awareness of the total presence of God. Christ consciousness is what Jesus embodied, or in fact, Jesus was born with the Christ, the total awareness of God within. As mankind has evolved spiritually over the last few generations, people now want to know how they can attain that which is called 'Christ consciousness'. These people have come to realize Jesus was so much more than a man who sacrificed himself or who overcame the world with love or who forgave the sinner and healed the sick. In explaining the Christ is not a man, but is something within all mankind, let me emphasize that the Christ is an awareness of Truth. When you feel Christ, you sense possessing a new awareness of God and the nature of God. At the time, you may not know what it is except with a realization of peace; an awareness of inner peace that encompasses your being. This is reflected in one's demeanor, much like Jesus manifested with the radiance seen by those who encircled him. The total awareness of the presence of God is a 24-hour, 7-days a week vocation. It was this that made Jesus such an example of the Christ. He was aware of God's presence of perfection continuously. This conscious awareness of Truth was what he exemplified on a day-to-day basis, mingling among the multitudes of people. People are born with this Truth silently and secretly embedded within. Some feel it at an early age and practice it unknowingly. Others develop it along the path of human life as challenges lead them to discover the Christ (awareness of God) within. You might say, "I sometimes get tiny glimpses of Truth, but it becomes elusive". Or you may ask, "How can I attain this consciousness on a more permanent basis?" Become aware, even for five minutes a day, perhaps upon arising in the morning before the tasks of the day are begun. Become aware of the presence of God in your life; in your work and your play and within your family members. As the morning advances, become aware that God is being your life and being the life of those around you. Then, broaden your horizons to become aware that God is being those whom you can't see and don't know. As day turns into evening become aware that God is right there where you are. There is no evil in God. No animosity, no imperfection, no judgment. Understand that only in one's ignorance of the nature of God can the Christ be absent. At the end of the evening and upon retiring for the night, become aware that God goes before you to make the crooked places straight; that God is in the tomorrows as well as the yesterdays. In the Now, only God is. Then feel His presence in the recognition of the peace of Christ within. In doing this practice on a regular consistent schedule, before you know it you will have new understanding that will be exemplified in your own life. The 'Christ consciousness' is nothing more than an 'Awareness consciousness'; being consciously aware of Truth. Other great Masters have personified this same awareness. Realized by Gautama, his followers came to call him the Buddha, or 'Enlightened One' . Mohammed realized he was one with God and his understanding coined him the name 'prophet' by his followers due to his keen awareness. After all, society would not have but one Christ, whom they identify with Jesus. But the Christ is the same in us all, once we have the realization of God being All. In oneness. . . |
